About Me

Hi!  My name is Sarah Jane, and I’m an aspiring high school math teacher, studying at the University of La Verne.

First things first: I love math!  I passionately believe that math is a wonderful subject that all too often intimidates students because of its difficult reputation. With good teaching, math can become not only doable, but also enjoyable.  This is what I’d like to do — be the teacher whose passion for her subject inspires her students. While I may not convince every student that math is fun, I hope to at least eliminate the fear and dread I hear from so many people, even years after their last math class.

In addition to math, I have a few other loves!  My family is the most important!  My husband, toddler daughter, and dog put up with me, inspire me, and encourage me all the time.  They’re crazy, and I love them for it!

Another passion of mine is running.  I’ve run eight marathons and am currently training for the 2015 Los Angeles Marathon on March 15, with Team Nutribullet.  Being a part of a team again is amazing!  For many years, I worked at Top Speed Running, a specialty running store in La Verne, CA, and had a lot of fun fitting runners for shoes and dispensing running wisdom.  One day I’d love to coach runners again!

  1. Welcome to 407, Sarah Jane! 🙂 Your daughter is adorable, and I admire your passion for math, teaching, and teaching math. We need more math teachers like you. While I can’t identify with the passion for running (ha!), I do appreciate that as well. I’m looking forward to reading more of your thoughts and reflections throughout the class. Again, welcome!
